U.S. 78
Construction continues
Work in Section 3 progressing, work remains in all
sections
C. W.
Matthews contractors is actively working in Section 3
from Killian Hill Road to Highpoint Road. Utility crews are
active the entire corridor including in Section 4 to S.R. 124. C.W. Matthews
remains on schedule and anticipates completion of the entire
project by year end 2009. Recall that when the entire project is complete,
the roadway will have three (3) permanent lanes in each
direction with fifteen (15) signalized intersections and
eight (8) additional partial median openings providing safe
access throughout the entire 7-mile corridor.
The parallel street from the Yellow River Game
Ranch to Killian Hill Road connecting via Paxton Lane is now
open to traffic and operating well. Additionally, the
interparcel access connection between the Publix Shopping Center
at Killian HIll Road and the Home Depot center is also open and
well received with early users.
Work continues most nights after 7 p.m. and
before 5 a.m. with lane closures to permit the construction
activities and utility work.
None of the pavement in any Section is final
pavement. Once construction and utility work is complete to S.R.
124, C. W. Matthews will install a final layer of asphalt
pavement along the entire 7-mile corridor that will provide a
"smooth ride" finish.

Evermore
Urgent Care

An Evermore Economic Development
Fact:
A $60 million medical campus
being mapped out for Stone Mountain could include a first in the
Southeast — a freestanding, acute care hospital focused on
emergency medicine.
Plans for the campus call for a
50,000-square-foot hospital, an assisted-living center and three
medical office buildings that would house specialty practices,
including gastroenterology, neurology and cardiology.
The hospital, a joint venture
between Stone
Mountain Hospital Inc. and Arizona-based Gilbert Hospital,
would help address the emergency room crisis in Georgia by
trimming wait-times and alleviating ER overcrowding, CEO Larry
Gold said.
As the uninsured population
surges, patients often use hospital emergency rooms as their
primary care provider. That’s because, hospitals, by law, must
stabilize patients in the ER, regardless of their ability to
pay. Swamped with many non-emergency cases, ERs are overcrowded,
leading to long patient wait-times.
